Outdoor Worship

There’s a lot to trying something new… Back in the dark days of winter, one of the members of the worship committee said, “In the summer, could we have a service by the lake?” So, the idea of a service in the backyard of Heike Domke Talbot was launched, and this Sunday is the day! The difficulty, however, is that all of what we’re used to at the church – pews, pulpit, coffee, cups, chancel, greeters, flowers, parking, etc. – has to be recreated in a setting that we’re not used to. So, there’s consultations and lists and phone calls, and all sorts of things to make this happen…

Ironically, or perhaps appropriately, the scripture we’re going to look at this week is about not worrying. Look at the lilies and the ravens, Jesus tells his friends, how they neither sow nor reap, and yet God provides.

Yes, it might be time to take a deep breath…

So, this Sunday, weather permitting, we’ll bring our lawnchairs and take in the beautiful shore. We’ll not only ponder the lilies and the ravens, we’ll be among them. And because there’s no better thing than a summer picnic, we’ll have a picnic. And there will be coffee and greeters and parking and all those good things…

To prepare, read Luke 12:22-31 and ponder the following:

1.      How easy or difficult is it to trust in God the way Jesus outlines here?

2.      What is your favourite thing to worry/fret about?

Here are the details for Sunday’s service!

1.      If it rains, the service will be at the church. A notice will go out via the e-mail list and Facebook if the location reverts back to the church. Either way, we’ll still have a potluck picnic!

2.      There are a few parking spots at Heike’s, but to alleviate parking there, Murray Mielhausen and Rob Groves will be offering a shuttle service from the church parking lot starting at 9:15 a.m.

3.      Dress for the weather, including a sun hat, and bring the following: water, a lawnchair, plates, cups and utensils and a potluck offering for sharing.

4.      There are people assigned to help with parking at Heike’s and also to assist folks into the worship area.
