Tobermory Thrift Shop Extends Its Season

Due to the amazing generosity of the community, the Tobermory Thrift Shop is able to continue its season beyond the posted closing date of Sept. 13.  The Thrift Shop will maintain regular hours (open 1 to 4 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) until Sept. 13 and then will be open Saturdays only from 1 to 4 until Oct. 11.  Tobermory United is humbled by and grateful for a record number of donations of quality household items that has enabled this extension of sales. Over the summer, the Thrift Shop has also recorded record sales. The Tobermory Thrift Shop is not only a major fundraiser for Tobermory United Church and the Tobermory Community Outreach Fund, but also enables household items that might otherwise go to the landfill to be re-used. It also provides low-cost items to residents and visitors alike – as well as the thrill of finding treasures! Donations to the Thrift Shop are no longer being received, but if you have items to donate, please store them for next spring!  Many thanks to everyone who has supported the Thrift Shop in any way.

Summer in the Spirit, a joint initiative between Tobermory United and St. Edmund’s Anglican, with the goals of building community, honouring the sacredness of place and celebrating Spirit, finished the series with a community potluck on August 27. Over the summer, nine weekly events were held, and hundreds of people participated – residents, summer residents and tourists, alike. “Summer in the Spirit brings everyone in,” one participant offered in the feedback session. “Not just church people. The series is so versatile. It brings in people who are interested in different things, and it enriches our lives.”

In worship at Tobermory United, we will kick off the Season of Creation on Sept. 14 with a “Blessing of the Animals” service. This will be an outdoor service on the labyrinth (weather permitting) and well-behaved animals are welcome! Pictures of pets are also welcome to be blessed.
